Improving biotech status of Hong Kong

The Hong Kong Jockey Club Institute of Chinese Medicine recently signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) with Canada’s national food and biotech research institute AFMNet, one of four between Hong Kong and Canadian organisations.

AFMNet Chairman Dr Murray McLaughlin says the MOUs help to develop the research and expertise available on the medicinal benefits of plants, by using Chinese herbal techniques. Co-operation will hasten Hong Kong’s goal to become a regional biotech center. There are also benefits for Hong Kong institutes in using the Canadian synchrotron, the light beam technology that facilitates analysis and diagnostic work across wide industrial and agricultural fields. It could make sense for Hong Kong to develop its own synchrotron, Dr McLaughlin adds.

American patients rapidly adopting Medical Tourism to India

American patients rapidly adoption Medical/Health Tourism to India. Wockhardt Hospital in Bangalore is among the leading institutes. Its a state of the art facility at which is rapidly getting popular with American and European patients looking for advanced Cardiac, Orthopedic and Spinal Surgeries. You are talking about the best quality surgeons here.

For example, Wockhardt Hospital is an associate hospital of Harvard Medical International (HMI), Boston, USA, and is equipped with latest technology, multi-disciplinary capability, world class infrastructure.

In fact, MyOrbit has been involved in a couple of patient cases of Medical/Health Tourism to India, and we can vouch for the overall quality of healthcare and that is being described by these patients. New Delhi and Mumbai also has several top medical hospitals – specially built for international patients.

For someone who has experienced high cost healthcare or long waiting lines, this is a great option.

Getting Started With Google Docs

Collaborative team effort – is a must to achieve something big — but as anyone who has worked in a team to prepare a proposal or a business plan or any document will know — it’s a big challenge to ensure that people are working on the right versions and tracking who’s changing what. So often, one person in a team is made responsible just for this work – the anchor! But if you want to do it better — Google Docs offers a good system.

The adoption is still very small because most of us in business feel uneasy about putting our “next quarter projections on the Internet”. But if you asked the opinion of a neutral 3rd party software specialist, you will realize Google has built a fair amount of security around the docs. And like is most cases, those of us with the biggest need and smallest budget will get onto this before others who have more disposable capital and effort. But give it a try- we found it good!

Eurostar Goodbye Waterloo, Hello St Pancras

Eurostar in the UK is going to get High Speed rail soon! And that’s very interesting for any frequent intra-Europe traveller. From November 14, 2007 (mark the date please), its going to be faster travel, and at least 30 to 60 minutes shaved-off your UK-Continental Europe train travel times. The 186mph high-speed line from St Pancras International in London to the Channel Tunnel means that the UK will become part of the high-speed rail network that covers much of Europe. Check out their website for more information: http://fortomorrow.eurostar.com/

Eurostar St Pancras London

In fact, Eurostar is joining Europe’s other leading high-speed rail operators to form Railteam, to make your journey even easier. Railteam is being brought to you by a group of rail companies – along with Eurostar they are: Deutsche Bahn (Germany), SNCF (France), NSHispeed (Netherlands), ÖBB (Austria), SBB (Switzerland) and SNCB (Belgium), as well as two of their high-speed subsidiaries Thalys and Lyria. Railteam covers any journey that starts and ends in a Railteam country (see the map on the right), at least part of which involves a high-speed rail journey with a Railteam partner.

Richard Brown, Eurostar CEO, sums it up best: “Railteam will reduce barriers between countries and build confidence in the quality and reliability of international services. It will provide travellers with an integrated network with connections as good as or better than airports, and make high-speed rail a really attractive and effective alternative to the more environmentally damaging, short-haul airlines.”
